We are stoked to present the work of Sarah Carlson, combining personal experiences, with culled images from adventure tourism archives and Canadian art history. Familiar narratives within the landscape painting genre are interpreted with experimentation; featuring vibrant colours, thick oil impasto, luminous acrylic tones, fluid strokes and rendered forms. Her work presents a pictorial mix of figuration and abstraction inspired by recent travels within Canadian wild spaces.

Completing artist residencies in both Algonquin Provincial Park and the remote Yukon wilderness in 2016, Carlson responds to her surroundings by embodying the idea of the nomad or visitor. Along with recurring motifs around migration and movement, the primary theme is an examination of the complex and mediated relationships between humans and nature. Carlson is a lake surfer and avid rock climber. Her exhibit is on display at the shop until September 27th. Come check it out!
