September 28th — 30th
Cherry Beach + Surf the Greats
Surf the Greats, MEC and Rip Curl are stoked to host a weekend of surf, SUP and sisterhood. We're inviting GTA women to experience the surf lifestyle on the Great Lakes! Join us on the beach and in the shop, get your feet wet — literally — and empower yourself with the tools and community you need to shred on the Great Lakes (and beyond).
We would like to make these experiences available to as many people as possible as space is limited. With the exception of Tidal Flow Yoga and beach clean-up, please limit your registration to one workshop/activity per day. Any registrants signed up for more than one workshop per day will have their additional spots opened up for another participant.
FRIDAY, Sept 28 - Janne Robinson & ‘This is for the women who don’t give a f*ck’
The fun unofficially kicks-off at 7pm on Friday, September 28th with surfer, skater, writer and all around rad lady, Janne Robinson. We’ll be celebrating her first book of poetry, 'This is for the women who don't give a fuck', with a screening of her surf and poetry film "I am a woman of distinction", a Q+A and book signing.
*The book launch is a private ticketed event organized by Janne Robinson and hosted by Surf the Greats. Tickets are available here.
SATURDAY, Sept 29 - She Shreds at Cherry Beach, presented by MEC
We’re heading to the water! The day starts early with Tidal Flow Yoga and a beach clean-up to spread the good vibes and give back to Lake Ontario. Stay all day and hang with the crew in the MEC Nation Chill Zone, or drop-in for a single surf or SUP session. Beverages will be provided on-site by Brother's Coffee Roasters and Mata Mate. Yew!
9AM - TIDAL FLOW YOGA: Yoga on the beach celebrates nature and inspires a healthy lifestyle in the city. This Vinyasa flow mixes traditional yoga postures, contemporary movements from Ginástica Natural, conditioning movements from surfing and breathing and meditation techniques. Accessible and suitable for everyone and you don't have to be a surfer to practice! Bring your own mat or beach towel.
10AM - BEACH CLEAN-UP
12PM - INTRO TO SUP: Lear and further develop your paddleboarding skills. This program introduces you to the basics of Stand up paddleboarding (SUP) - including safety instruction, proper positioning on the board, paddling techniques and gives you time to practice your new skills on the water!
12PM + 1:30PM - INTRO TO SURF: Prepare for surfing the lakes on the windiest days (when the waves are pumping) by learning the fundamentals in a controlled environment. This class is designed for days without wind/waves to help beginners learn and practice surf basics. This introduction to surfing class is suitable for everyone - no experience required!
1:30PM - SUP YOGA: Improve your strength, balance and flexibility on the water, while enjoying the peace and tranquility of nature. We will practice a beautiful Hatha-flow style class on paddle boards, ending in a serene mindful meditation and floating savasana. This class is ideal for people who have previous yoga experience (previous SUP Yoga experience not required!), and for people who have basic SUP skills.
