Flat Days Learn to Surf the Greats Ontario Toronto Surf Canada Fitness

No waves? No problem! We have created a special class that transitions some of the drills from our Surf Ready program to the water, to add special exercises to make you a better, stronger surfer. On flat days, we will be on the beach with surfboards performing similar surf related fitness exercises we have run in the shop, but with a twist. Our ISA-certified surf coaches have put together a solid strength and conditioning program to get you ready to surf when the waves come. With a well-structured fitness program derived from yoga, calisthenics, Ginástica Natural and other low-impact movement modalities, our Flat Days classes are designed to improve balance, mobility, flexibility, strength and cardiovascular conditioning. Every week there will be new drills focussing on proper posture, alignment, and technique to help you with your pop-ups and to make you a stronger paddler. Set in a fun, safe, and upbeat environment, this surf circuit uses predominantly your body weight and is suitable for people of all ages and fitness levels. We set the space for you to train at your own desired speed and intensity, and you choose how hard to push every session. Come break a sweat and make the most out of those flat days with us!

We will provide all the equipment you need. Show up with a towel and bathing suit at the designated meeting spot and leave the rest to us.

CLASS DURATION: 1.5 hrs


SKILL LEVELS: Beginner, intermediate and advanced surfers. If you are completely new to surfing, we recommend taking an ‘Intro to Surfing’ class before.

  • Surfboards, leashes
  • Dry land lesson covering safety, techniques, theory, and specific strength and conditioning drills and exercises
  • In water training session expanding on your dry land session

    Sundays 6:30–8:00 PM
    Summer classes run from July 2 to September 30.

    Terms & Conditions

    CANCELLATION PHILOSOPHY

    You can cancel your class online or through our app up to 24 hours before class start time to avoid losing the class. We do not accept email or phone cancellations. If you have not canceled your class, you will receive an email the following day to advise you that you have been late canceled.

    LATE CANCEL PENALTY

    Our late cancel policies are based on student feedback to help create a more fluid and relaxing sign in. If we hold a spot for you and you don’t show up it means that someone else could not get into the class and this is frustrating for people who have made the time to show up. NO REFUNDS OR CREDITS are given for classes missed. 

    If you have a 5-class pass, the class you missed will be automatically deducted.

    We are sorry, but we cannot make individual exceptions. You have until 24 hours before class starts to add yourself in or remove yourself based on your schedule, so you can always wait until you know you can definitely make it to save your spot!

    REFUNDS

    All sales are final and not eligible for a refund unless Surf the Greats cannot meet its commitment to deliver a class. You have up to 24 hours to cancel or reschedule a class, and your account will be credited. Credits are non-transferable and may be used toward other workshops or products in-store and online. Cash refunds can only be issued if Surf the Greats cannot meet its commitment to deliver a class. NO REFUNDS OR CREDITS are given for classes missed. 

     

    COURTESY POLICY

    Our goal is to create a space for as many students as possible in every single class we offer, without overcrowding the class or letting space go to waste unnecessarily. In order to do that for each of you, we have a few guidelines in place:


    PRE REGISTRATION

    All spaces are available to book online up to 14 days in advance and pre-registration is required to guarantee a spot in your favourite classes. Pre-registration is available through our MindBody online app.

     

    WAITLIST

    Even when a class appears full, you may, and should, add yourself to the waitlist. When a cancellation is made, the first name on the wait list gets automatically added to the class, and you receive an automatic email and/or text message at the time. Once you get added to the class from the waitlist you become responsible for attending or canceling.

    LATE ARRIVAL PHILOSOPHY

    If you are not signed in at the desk or at the beach within 10 min before class starts and there are students hoping and waiting for a spot in class, we open the available spots in class to those who are on the waitlist, and your reservation might thus be forfeited. We also start our classes on time and will not accept any late entry to classes.

    INTRODUCTORY & PROMOTIONAL PASSES

    You must show valid Photo ID with each class attended (whether that is on a 5-class pass or Introductory class). The name on your identification must match your name on account. This is so we have the chance to get to know you! No extensions or holds. You must not have taken ANY classes at Surf the Greats from October 1, 2017 to qualify for either of these introductory passes.

    COMMUNITY POSITIVE SPACE

    The world can be a tough enough place as it is. Treat your fellow participants with consideration and respect … and if someone looks like they’re new to the studio don’t be afraid to say hi and let them know the lay of the land in a compassionate way… remember we were all new to a studio at some point.

    TOLERANCE POLICY

    Surf the Greats has a zero-tolerance policy for discrimination based on age, gender, sexuality, mental or physical disability, body type, race, religion or political belief.
