Surf and SUP instructors will be introduced to safe supervision and programming delivery in flatware, moving water, and/or surf.  This training has been specifically designed to provide candidates with an understanding of the lifesaving principles embodied in the four components of water rescue education including; judgment, knowledge, skill, and fitness. This course brings together knowledge from several different organizations including the Lifesaving Society, the standard setting body for lifeguarding in Canada and member of the International Life Saving Federation (ILS), and the International Surfing Association (ISA).

(Course content breakdown 30% drylands, 70% in water)  

Upon the successful completion of the course candidates will receive the following certifications: 

NOTE:  The ISA/ILS International Surf and SUP Instructor Aquatic Rescue and Safety Accreditation is a prerequisite to becoming a certified Surf and/or SUP Instructor with the International Surfing Association. The Lifesaving Society's Bronze Cross is the prerequisite to becoming a professional lifeguard in Canada.

An overview of some of the skills that will be covered over the course include:

  • Aquatic First Aid
  • Develop problem-solving and decision-making skills as individuals, and with partners in an aquatic setting 
  • How to safely delivery aquatic programs in cold water climates
  • Cold Water Survival  as individuals, and with partners  
  • Develop Water Smart® confidence and the lifesaving skills needed to safely deliver surf and sup programming.

  • Defences and Releases
  • Surf/SUP Specific Rescues
  • Communicating Effectively on the Water
  • Spinal Injury Management (Dry and Wet)
  • Entries and Removals 
  • Identify Someone in Need
Cost: $399.00 (Excludes ISA/ILS award which is $99 USD to be paid directly to ISA)

Pre-requisites:
Candidates must provide a copy of their Standard First Aid award upon registration. 

A standard first aid can be attending though a variety of different providers in the Toronto area including: 

 

The course is limited to 12 participants. Registration fee is non-refundable and non-transferrable.
