She Shreds 2023: A weekend of surf, skate, and sisterhood
CALLING ALL LADY SLIDERS! Join us for a weekend of surf, skate, and sisterhood presented by Rip Curl Canada. From our cozy storefront at Surf the Greats to Greenwood Park and Longslice Brewery, we will be hosting a variety of activities and workshops all weekend to introduce you to the amazing community of women shredding the Great Lakes and beyond and to show you what Toronto's surf & skate culture is all about!
This year we could not be more honoured to host professional surfer Kassia Meador and surfboard shaper Ashley Lloyd, who are joining us all the way from California and bringing a whole lotta Cali love and inspiration to She Shreds this year! These two incredible women are some of California’s finest longboarders and surf legends, and they will be with us all weekend showcasing their work, hosting workshops, and taking a peek into our surf community up here on the Greats!
We'll be kicking the weekend off on Friday, August 11th at Surf the Greats with a film screening and community night where we will be showcasing documentaries highlighting women who inspire through their connections with the sea. Make sure to stick around for our Q&A panel with Kassia Meador and Ashley Lloyd, and grab a drink graciously supplied by our sponsors Straight & Narrow, Guayaki, and Longslice Brewery!
Saturday, August 12th we will be throwing a rad Concrete Shred at the Greenwood Park rink in Leslieville, where we will be running our Level 1 Carver Surfskate Clinics, freeskate sessions, and a special Intro to Longboarding workshop hosted by Kassia and Ashley! Come learn a new skill or progress your boardsports skills with professional longboarders from California and our Surf the Greats surfskate instructors! Boards and protective gear will be provided, however, you are encouraged to bring your own surfskate if you have one! Our freeskate will be held after our clinics, which is included in our lesson prices, or offered for a small fee separate from our lessons if you're just looking to join us and shred!
If you've ever been curious about longboarding or honing in on your surf skills, our guest stars Kassia and Ashley will be teaching you how to perfect your longboarding abilities with their adapted Intro to Longboarding workshop on dry ground! Use your imagination and envision yourself cross-stepping a perfect little peeler, with techniques, drills, and tips provided by some of California's finest longboarders; this is an incredible opportunity to learn from the pros!
Once we’ve all had our fun we will then be moving across to The Aviary Brewpub in Corktown with Longslice Brewery for our closing party!
Pricing & Registration Information
Registration for our She Shreds workshops on Saturday August 12th is open to ALL female-identified and non-binary humans looking to shred! No prior experience required.
Our community night on Friday, August 11th, and our Closing Party on August 12th are open to ALL friendly faces looking to celebrate diversity in boardsports and to share the stoke with us!
To make these experiences available to as many people as possible, please limit your registration to ONE She Shreds workshop/activity on Saturday, August 12th.
Fee to reserve your spot for a Carver Clinic is $45. Our Intro to Longboarding workshop with professional longboarder Kassia Meador & surfboard shaper Ashley Lloyd is $65. These prices include registration for the freeskate session after the clinics and workshops.
Fee to participate in the freeskate session only is $20, which includes supervision, tips & tricks, and high levels of stoke from our professional surfskate instructors.
To join us for our Closing Party at The Aviary Brewpub, please reserve your space by RSVP-ing for the free ticket via Eventbrite, which will give you access to a drink ticket upon arrival at the party!
**For our Surfskate sessions, boards and protective gear will be made available to borrow, but please make sure to bring your own helmet!
